Catlandia walked down the hallway searching for the plaque labeled "54". She walked quickly her heels clicking in the soon to not be empty hallway. She scanned doors, seeing one class with most of their hands raised and excitement glittering in their eyes. She scanned the chalkboard quickly as she continued walking and saw that it was a list of all the districts in Panem. She passed several more doors before reaching the door that read 54.
She inserted her key into the lock and the door opened with a squeak and a loud creak.
She walked into the dark classroom and felt the wall searching for a light switch. After searching for a good few minutes, she finally detected one and flipped the switch, the classroom filled with light. She scanned the room filled with desks lined in neat rows, and group tables sat against the back wall under white boards. The front of the classroom was empty except for a teachers desk and a chalk board. She walked towards the desk and picked up a folder marked "Maze Runner" and skimmed it as the bell rang. Students started talking in halls as lockers could be heard opening and closing.
Students slowly entered the room and sat at the neat desks. The final bell rung, signaling the start of class. She placed back down the file and gazed at the class of students. They chatted quietly to the people sitting next to them. She cleared her throat and the class went silent and stared at her.
"Um...Hi...," She cleared her throat again, "Welcome to History of the Flare." She said while writing it in big block letters on the chalkboard. Under the block letters she wrote:
Sun Flare: October of ________
What Happened?
The Solar Storm:
What Happened and How did it impact the Earth?
"This is what you need to know. Please pull out you notebook and write these questions down and then we will answer them as a class." She waited as the noise of pencils hitting paper filled the air, while students wrote the information down vigorously.
"Okay, so who knows the answer to 'Sun Flare: October of ________?'"
A boy with baby blue hair raised his hand with enthusiasm.
She pointed towards his general direction, while looking him in the eyes.
"It happened in October of 2136." He said proudly.
"Very good! That is indeed correct, it happened in the year 2136." She responded walking back towards the chalkboard.
"So who can answer the second question."
This time many students raised their hands, enthusiasm filling them. She pointed to a girl with blonde hair and blue glasses.
"It was an extremely powerful coronal mass ejection from the sun." The girl smiled while she read the answer from her notes.
"Amazing job." Catlandia walked back towards the chalk board and filled in the question and the question answered before.
"Now, who knows what happened during the Solar Storm and how did it impact the Earth?" Even more students raised their hand this time around.
She pointed to a shy kid in the back with teal glasses and long black hair.
"The Solar Storm was a storm that killed 4.5 million people in the first 15 minutes and it made the land in between the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn a scorched desert filled with lighting storms. It also disrupted Earth's magnetic field, allowing radiation to reach the surface. It also brought drastic changes to the climate making the ice caps melt faster, causing the seas to rise and most Europe to be eliminated along with other weather problems." Catlandia wrote as fast as she could, but couldn't keep up with the kid.
"That was extraordinary." She congratulated the kid and made them finish writing it on the board.
"Alright, that's all for this class, please make sure you have this written in your notes, as there will be a test soon," she glanced at the clock and realized she only had a few minutes before the bell rang, "You may pack up and leave when the bell rings."
She walked towards the desk and plopped into the chair. The bell rang and the students filed out of the classroom. The door closed with a slam and she smiled wistfully as she erased the chalkboard, waiting to start it all over again next class.
